Brunswick County, Virginia
Henry Maze purchased 122 acres of land on the south side of Avens Creek from John & Eleanor Brown for £11 10 shillings. Henry & Phebe Mayes sold the same 122 acres back to John Brown on 26 October 1765.
14 October 1765
Mecklenburg County, Virginia
Henry Mayes of Meherrin Parish in Brunswick County purchased 550 acres of land on Jennitoe Creek from Timothy & Susannah Ward for £65. On 11 July 1767, Henry Mays (now of Mecklenburg County) sold the land back to Timothy Ward for £45, under the condition that Henry could repossess the land by 30 December 1769 for £45 plus interest and fees. On 9 November 1771, Timothy Ward signed a release for the £45 plus interest paid by Henry Mayes. On 9 December 1771, Henry & Phebe Mays divided the tract half, selling 275 acres on the north side of the creek to James Standly for £32 10 shillings, and 275 acres on the south side to Josiah Dailey for £80.

Henry Mayes purchased 110 acres of land on the west side of Marrowbone Creek from Robert & Parthenia Chandler for £75. Henry left this land to his son David in his will.

Henry Mays took the Oath of Allegiance, along with three of his sons, Abraham, David, and Sherwood.

Henry Mayse purchased 271 acres of land on the south side of Marrowbone Creek from George & Mary Lumpkins for £75. In his will, Henry left 120 acres of this land to his son Liggin.

Henry & Phebe Mayes sold 100 acres of land on the south side of Marrowbone Creek to their son Abraham for £40.

Henry was not found on the 1782 personal property tax list, though his sons David, Littleberry, and Sherwood Mayse all appear. Henry Mayse Sr. does appear on the 1783 tax list with 2 tithables, including his son Henry Jr. He was taxed on four horses and six cattle that year, paying 19.9 shillings total.

Henry Maze, along with sons David, Sherwood, and Littleberry, signed a petition protesting the division of the county. The disputed area would later become Franklin County in 1786.

Henry Mayse purchased 150 acres of land along Fall Creek from Jessee Witt for £50.

Henry Mayze wrote his will on 4 November 1786, and it was proved in court on 15 May 1787, indicating that he died within these few months. An inventory of his estate was recorded on 12 May 1788.
In the name of God amen. I Henry Mayze of Henry County & State of Virginia being sick & weak in body but of perfect sence & dispossession of mind & memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same do make & ordain this my last will & testament in the manner following viz:
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Abraham Maze five shillings out of my estate.
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Sherwood Maze one shilling & three pence out of my estate.
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Littlebery Maze wheat sive.
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Henry Maze 1 cow out of my estate.
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Gooding Maze one mans saddle & saddle bags & grindstone.
- Item I give & bequeath to my son Liggin Maze one hundred & twenty acres of land the land that I bought of George Lumpkin also one sorrel colt & one feather bed & furniture.
- Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Susannah Hollandsworth five shillings.
- Item I give & bequeath unto my Elizabeth Gausot one shilling.
- Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Fanny Sollomon one small pot.
- Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Phebey Maze on feather bed & furniture one trunk one tin sugar box & one looking glass one chest three plates one bason & a paisel of earthen ware & one flax wheel & one cotton wheel.
- Item I give unto my son David Maze my tract of land where I now live containing one hundred & ten acres more or less also one rone horse & all my stock of cattle hogs & all the residue of my estate both real and personal
After [sic] of my wife which my will & desire is that my son David Maze should take the above mention articles & plantation twas of alsorts after my death & maintain my beloved wife Phebey Maze during her life or widowhood.
Lastly I do appoint my friend David Lanier & David Maze my hole & sole executors of this my last will & testament dissanulling all former wills by me made in testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand & fixed my seal this 4 day of November in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty six.
